Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?

Although we do not take insurance, a superbill (an itemized list of services provided to a client) is provided and sent out shortly after your child’s intensive is over. Please see our Parent Resources page for more information on Insurance Reimbursement.

Does a parent need to be present?

Yes, and not only do we need them present, we need them fully engaged and supporting us for both safety and effectiveness of therapy. Prior to starting your intensive, we will review caregiver expectations.

Do you provide in-home services?

The majority of our intensives take place in our clinic Westfield, NJ. If there is a significant medical reason your child cannot travel to clinic, please email us and we can figure out the best solution. Some of our therapists provide in-home weekly and consult sessions on a case by case basis depending on your location.

What do we need to bring to an intensive?

We recommend bringing along your child’s favorite toys, snacks and videos. Please also bring your child’s shoes, orthotics, glasses, trunk orthosis, splints and AAC devices. Your child’s voice matters and we always want to make sure they feel heard in their sessions! Although all of the above are important, what makes an intensive most successful is an engaged and motivating caregiver!

How do you decide if it will be a 1:1 intensive or a 2:1 (co-treat) intensive?

During the discovery call, we will discuss your child’s current functional skills and needs. Based on their size and current skill level, we will work together to will determine whether there is a need for two therapists in each session. This is based on safety reasons for both your child and ourselves. However, we ALWAYS give the family an option to request both therapists if we are available!

Do you have weight and age restrictions?

There are no age restrictions; weight limitations will be dependent on your child’s functional level.

Does my child need a specific diagnosis to benefit from an intensive?

No! Intensive therapy programs can help any and all children who may need it. Aliza and Nicole approach each child as a unique individual, meeting them exactly where they are. Rather than being driven by a specific diagnosis, our therapy is guided by the goals of each family and focused on supporting both motor and functional development in the most effective way possible.

How much does therapy cost?

This is dependent on the duration of the intensive and whether we provide 1:1 or 2:1 therapy. Please contact us directly for our pricing information for intensives and weekly sessions.

How is this different than traditional occupational and physical therapy?

Our main service model is an intensive model of therapy. An intensive model of therapy is a way of delivering therapy in a “high dose” format over a shorter period of time. It’s typically used for children presenting with neurological disorders, but can be beneficial for a variety of developmental delays (e.g. delayed crawling, delayed walking, difficulty manipulating toys, sensory processing challenges). This format yields incredible results and can lead to changes/improvements in a few short weeks that may otherwise take 6+ months with “traditional” weekly therapy sessions.

Do you provide PT and OT or will my child get one OR the other?

During a typical intensive, your child will have 1 session with Aliza (PT) and 1 session with Nicole (OT). We are both certified in DMI Therapy as well as other modalities. DMI therapy is a modality used by both professions therefore the services will be very similar. Other techniques used include CIMT, DIR/Floortime, TASES, NISE primitive reflex/sensory integration and more traditional PT/OT approaches to make each intensive bespoke to the family and child! We each have our respective backgrounds and experience and work as a team to create the most cohesive therapy experience. We also have options for “OT only” “PT only” or “Speech only” intensives.

How do parents decide on whether to do a 2 or 3 week intensive?

Three week intensive programs typically yield optimal results by building neuroplasticity through increased repetition of novel and dynamic movements, however, we will always work with the family regarding what is most feasible based on their availability and financial limitations, as well as what will work best for their child.

Do you ever offer 1 week intensives?

We prioritize first booking 2 and 3 week intensives. 1 week intensives are available periodically per schedule openings; please follow us on social media and join our email list to get the latest updates for 1 week intensive availability throughout the year.

How far in advance should I book my intensive?

We schedule our intensives on a first come first serve basis and often open registration for 6+ months out. The further out you book, the more likely you are to secure your preferred session dates and times. We also have an ongoing waitlist where you can sign up for specific dates if they have already been booked.

How many intensives do families typically book per year?

Children and families are all different, so this depends! With that being said, we typically recommend waiting at least 6-8 weeks between intensives to allow the brain time to process the new skills and information learned during their time with us. Families will book anywhere from 1 intensive to 4-5 intensives a year.
